Author Kiese Laymon Needs To Be Heavy

On the burden of being Black in America… Kiese Laymon has spent his entire life in battle over consuming and never consuming. Over the course of his life, his weight has spiked and dipped. In his e book, Heavy: An American Memoir, Kiese weaves collectively all these experiences. In doing so, disordered consuming, anti-blackness, fat-phobia, and dependancy all bubble collectively. “As artists, we obtained to have the ability to speak about all of it directly as a result of it all the time occurs directly,” he says. “Meals to me is a paradoxical method to get into all the mess of what we’re.”
